About Your Therapist

Jenni has been practising counselling since 1992 after she completed her training with the Central School of Counselling and Therapy (CSCT) at St Giles, Edinburgh.
Her interest in counselling developed from a lengthy involvement during the 1980's with Dr Dina Glouberman's Imagework Therapy under the personal guidance of Dina. This culminated to practitioner level in 1990 after which she then had the opportunity to practise on the Greek Island of Skyros in a supporting role directly with Dina.
Since then she has gone on to study different methods, including Transpersonal, TA and Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy in Edinburgh during the 90's and latterly graduated in Counselling at Dudley College studying Transactional Analysis, Humanistic and Psychodynamic theories and Stress reduction.

She has been involved with and has received extensive organisational trainings with Childline, ELCA (Edinburgh and Lothian Council on Alcohol), Samaritans and Mary Stevens Hospice for Bereavement Care.

Jenni has further studied Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy at Masters level at UCE (University of Central England) in Birmingham, UK. Her Masters Degree is entitled 'Spirituality in Counselling'.

From 2001 she has worked as counsellor for young people aged 16-25 at The What Centre?, Stourbridge, and The Zone in Dudley, West Midlands. From 2003 she studied for the Certificate in Mental Health in the Community and worked for three years as counsellor for Mind at Dove House, Russells Hall and also for Rethink (formerly the National Schizophrenia Fellowship) in Dudley.

Since 2005 Jenni has been established as an independent private counsellor and psychotherapist. She is a member of BACP (British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy), has professional and public liability insurance and regular supervision (as required by BACP) and she believes strongly and participates regularly in ongoing Professional Development. For instance, more recently she has trained in Hypnotherapy in order to offer Hypno-psychotherapy. She has also undertook extra trainings in Online Counselling and also Life Coaching.

Her work over the years has brought her into contact with many issues, including: anger management, anxiety, asperger's, bereavement, bullying, confidence issues, depression, divorce, dissociative disorder, eating problems, eczema, life at a crossroads, disabilities, drink problems, drug problems, emotional abuse, fears and phobias, grief, guilt, life crisis, loneliness, low self-esteem, loss, obsessive-compulsive disorder, over-work, pain control, panic disorder, personal development, physical abuse, relationship problems, schizophrenia, self-development, separation, self-harm, sexual abuse, sexual problems, spiritual issues, stress, suicide, terminal illness, trauma, worry about significant others.

Depending upon what is brought to the sessions, and also depending upon the person, who they are and how they are, different psychotherapy techniques of counselling may be applied, this is what is known as 'integrative counselling' and this is how Jenni works. This is often a blend of CBT (Cognitive/ Behavioural Therapy) and the Transpersonal (often involving relaxation and visualisation). Some issues require Psychodynamic Counselling (looking at childhood situations and working with transference, ie. the interaction held with the counsellor) Jenni is trained in newer techniques such as EFT which is useful for changing behaviours and EMDR which has been clinically proven to help in cases of serious Trauma. Whatever counselling technique is used, it is always adopted within an intuitive Transpersonal and Person-Centred Framework.

Jenni is an experienced Counselling Tutor of Anxiety Control, Anger Management and Assertiveness Training. When appropriate, these programs are incorporated within the therapy with individuals.

The first meeting acts as an assessment to ascertain the counselling focus and help you decide whether you wish to embark on any further counselling sessions. You are not asked to divulge anything you do not wish. You need not take the counselling further if you do not think it is right for you, or if you wish to think about it.

If required, it is also possible to ask for a short initial meeting of 20 mins to allow the client to meet and gain a better picture of what would be involved. The cost of this would be £25 and if time constraints allow, sometimes it is possible to extend this short initial meeting into your first complete counselling session, which may be useful if you have travelled a long way and wish to get started without any further delay.

For clients who would find it very difficult to travel to any of the practices, then online or telephone counselling sessions can be arranged. It is preferable if possible, to have at least one face-to-face meeting to start.
